About SISU Gifting

SISU was born by accident.
And a mild panic about forgetting birthdays.

For years, I kept a cupboard of “just in case” gifts — the kind you reach for when you suddenly remember it’s someone’s birthday, anniversary, farewell, or a very important day you really shouldn’t have forgotten. Thoughtful, well-made things. 

At some point, a friend looked at the cupboard and said,
“You know this is basically an online shop already, right?”

So SISU happened.

What does SISU mean?

SISU is a Finnish word that roughly translates to quiet strength, resilience, and calm determination. It’s about doing things properly, staying steady when things get tough, and showing care in the small details.

Those values feel universal — and they also happen to feel deeply familiar here at home.

It felt like the perfect name for a brand built on beautiful finds, meaningful moments, and gifting that actually feels good to give.

Where SISU lives

We live quietly on a plot surrounded by animals, fresh air, and space to think — a place where donkeys, horses, dogs, cats (and other critters) are part of everyday life.

That environment shapes everything about the way SISU exists: grounded and intentional, with the occasional spark when we stumble on something truly special, or dream up something unexpectedly brilliant with our makers.
